Use This
Sample Letter To The Credit
Reporting
Bureaus For Removal Of Your
Name From
Endless Unrequested Credit Card Offers
|
|
1. Yes, you have to include your Social
Security Number if you want your name properly (and
permanently) removed from the credit card solicitation lists the credit
bureaus love to sell to the big banks.
2. Only send this information to the
Big Three credit reporting bureaus: Equifax, Experian and
TransUnion. Do not send your Social Security Number to anyone else/any
other organization to get off of other junk mail lists. You can find those
letters and addresses by clicking here.
3. One more thing. It seems like the credit
bureaus change their address for these "remove requests" about
every-other-week, so check back to their website to verify the accuracy of
the addresses listed below: [These addresses were current
as of March 23, 2004.] Click here for their websites:
Equifax
Experian
TransUnion
Here are the three current credit bureau removal addresses:
Experian
Consumer Services
901 West Bond Street
Lincoln, NE 68521
(or do it via phone: 402
458-5247)
Options
Equifax, Inc.
P.O. Box 740123
Atlanta, GA 30374-0123
TransUnion LLC's Name Removal Program
PO Box 97328
Jackson, MS 39288-7328
4. Use your head when using the format shown
below: Obviously you'll need to modify the letter to
include your proper current/personal information, mailing address and Social
Security Number. (Changing the date to reflect the current/correct date is
always nice, too.) And make sure you specify if you're a "Sr." or "Jr." or
"III" etc.
5. Use the appropriate credit bureau name
and mailing address, too: They claim that they share this
information amongst themselves and that you've only gotta send your request
to one of them, but why not reduce the margin of error and send a letter to
each bureau?
