Thinking About A New Set Of Wheels? Hoping You'll Get 0% Financing? (Here's What You Need To Know!) Plus: How To Get Your Free Copy Of Ben's 2004 Smart Car Seminar Guide

Airdate: January 22, 2004
We’re already almost through the first month of 2004 and while a lot of New Year's resolutions have already been forgotten, there are others that depend on research, budgeting and time–such as acquiring a new car.
General Motors made waves a couple of weeks ago when they announced a promotion that will give away 1,000 new vehicles from now until the end of February, and joining us to talk about the car buying or leasing process is our un-common sense expert and Dallas Morning News columnist Benjamin Dover.....
Question 1: You wrote about this big promotion in your column this morning...
Answer 1: That’s right. Wanna be car buyers visiting any of the 7,000 GM dealerships–sellers of Chevrolet, Pontiac, Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile, Saturn, Saab or Hummer models–don’t have to do much to get their shot at winning a new set of wheels. All they gotta do is just sit in an "OnStar-equipped" car and push the On-Star button to find out if they’re a winner.
Question 2: Sounds simple enough. What are the odds of winning a new vehicle?
Answer 2: GM says about 1 in 5,500, and the good news? No test drive is necessary...but expect a crowd. They predict this offer will bring about 5.5 million prospective customers to showrooms, 40-50% more than usual for two traditionally slow sales months.
Question 3: In your quest for expert answers, you spent some time with one of the leading experts in the automobile business recently, didn’t you?
Answer 3: That’s right. I talked to Ray Stafin, the president of Manufacturer’s Auto Leasing and asked him the Top 3 questions that I receive every year, and I think the answers might surprise you.
Question 4: If it sounds too good to be true, it always seems to be the case, doesn’t it?
Answer 4: Absolutely, especially when it comes to leasing companies and some of the radio campaigns that are out there. The biggest part of the battle for consumers is understanding how they’re playing the game, and the bottom line for the most aggressive advertisers out there is making the phones ring or getting prospective buyers on their lots.
At that point, the brain damage of the car buying or leasing process begins, and that’s why just about everyone dreads the thought of having to spend 4 hours getting beaten down on their trade-in value or the actual cost of the new vehicle or the leasing or financing terms. Those sexy 0% financing or fat rebate deals are for buyers "With Approved Credit"....which means that the majority of people are gonna be turned down because of something on their credit reports.
Question 5: But you’ve done alotta the work for us, and you’ve got your new 2004 Smart Car Seminar guide available on-line, don’t you?
Answer 5: You betcha. The price is right–free, of course–and I take you through all of the steps you’re going to have to go through during the process, but the old saying "knowledge is power" pays off here. And I’ve got a pretty candid Q&A with Ray Stafin from Manufacturer’s Auto Leasing posted there as well...and some of the techniques used at leasing companies and dealerships will curl your hair.
Close: Like Ben said, it’s all right there on his award-winning website, his 2004 Smart Car Seminar guide–free for the taking, right here on-line.

More good news for future home buyers (and their credit reports): Didja hear about the mortgage company that was able to step in and close a tough loan on less than 24 hours notice? Despite all of the paperwork and (perceived) brain-damage that goes with the home buying process, the first mortgage company that was supposed to close fell apart and set the stage for the save of the century by my friends at W.R. Starkey Mortgage. And what's really amazing about this story are the facts of the deal: A pock-marked credit report, a non-conforming loan and a short-fuse couldn't keep Starkey from delivering the goods for a grateful homeowner, which brings me to the moral of the story...
Don't screw around with a buncha pikers that make mortgage promises they'll never be able to keep! You might think you're getting a good deal, but it'll likely blow up in your face when push-comes-to-shove and they can't close. Then your problems really begin. W.R. Starkey has the Dover Seal of Approval because they're the best, no-B.S. mortgage company in the nation...period.
They deliver and make home buyers the winners and long-term beneficiaries of Starkey's commitment to their company positioning statement: "A different kind or mortgage company where people come first." You really can bank on it, folks.
Take the Dover-proven route to stress-free finance, and take advantage while interest rates are STILL at incredibly-low levels! Ben's no-brainer choice for any/all of your mortgage needs? Easy...do it all on-lineor on the phone with the official mortgage company of www.benjamindover.com and your first (and only) stop: W.R. Starkey Mortgage. Hit their website or call their main Dallas-Fort Worth officetoll-free: (888) 282-6632.
It's easy to get educated about the process first...(plus the price is right...how about free?!?) Everything you need to know is only a click away. Get your copy of Bens' 2004 Home Buyer's Guide by clicking here.

What's in your credit files? How do you know? Yeah-I've heard the faulty logic: "I get dozens of pre-approved credit card applications every month, so I must have great credit."
