| Do you realize how hard it is to keep up with all of the assorted cool websites on the
Web? I'm doing the best I can, and recognize that links and addresses change from time to
time. So listen up...if you either: |
| a) Find a link on
my site that doesn't work anymore or |
b) Uncover a
website that you think my readers/viewers/listeners would enjoy, be amazed by or benefit
from in some way-shape-or-form, then tell me! Write to me at askben@bendover.com
and I'll check it out and if at
least one of the 1,001 member Team Dover staff agrees with you, we'll add it.
Okay, let's go cruise the Net.
If you're on my website, we gotta start with these three that I'm sure are near-and-dear
to your hearts: www.experian.com or www.equifax.com or www.transunion.com.
When I was a kid, I used to love to go "Night Tuning" on my AM radio. Pulling in
radio stations from all over North America thanks to "skip" was pretty cool. Now
you can do something just as adventurous on your computer thanks to the folks at www.broadcast.com. They used to be known as AudioNet,
now you can look around find archived copies of many of my radio shows here.
Trying to find someone? Trying to locate some "hidden" or "lost"
assets? Look no further than the man with the plan, Ed Pankau: www.pankau.com.
Forget all of the imitators out there purporting to give you the best deals in travel.
There's only one Tom Parsons and one www.bestfares.com.
From great air fare deals to finding the best deals on rental cars, cruises, travel by
train, you snooze--you lose airfares--to the latest travel scams you need to be aware of.
This is the only travel bookmark you need.
Unless of course you're a loyal flier of American Airlines like I am. Their website gets
more hits than any other airline for a reason. Go find out for yourself: www.aa.com.
Okay. I lied. Here's one more bookmark for really terrific deals on hotel rooms all over
the world. I've used them extensively on my various book tours, and the Hotel Reservations
Network is pretty good at not only giving you great prices, but finding a room at a good
price in a city that's supposedly "sold out." Check out their site:
www.hotels.com.
You're not going to get insights in the real world of money and general consumer
information like you'll find in the Wall Street Journal. You don't have to have thousand
of dollars invested in the stock market to read it, either. Be informed and check it out
at www.wsj.com.
If you love books like I do and are frustrated by the lack of availability of the book
you're looking for (and if you're looking for any of my books--don't waste your time--you
can buy it off this website cheaper than they'll sell it to you!) check out my favorite
virtual bookstores (which will ship your order to you usually within 3-5 days instead of
the waiting 2 weeks or more in the conventional bookstore), in order: www.amazon.com or www.barnesandnoble.com.
I don't have all of the answers in the consumer financial world, but I know where to find
them. There's nothing more frustrating than finding out "after the fact" that
you've made a (potentially) costly financial decision... and one of the most common is
when it comes to making "buy or lease" decisions when you're looking for a new
car. That's why there's only one place to go on the Internet (I've had this guy on my
radio show, and despite the fact that he's a lawyer, he's a pretty good guy and even knows
what he's talking about!); check out their site: www.leasesource.com.
If you're looking to finance (or perhaps re-finance) a college education or existing
student loans, go to one of the industry leaders: www.nelliemae.org.
You want to read a bunch of chest-thumping propaganda (fiction)? Then don't miss www.collector.com.
Speaking of money, check out which banks are offering the credit card that fits your needs
the best: www.ramresearch.com.
It's 2:45 a.m. on a three-day holiday weekend and you or someone you care about is really
pretty sick and you can't stand the thought of waiting until "normal" business
hours the next morning or even the thought of standing in line in the ER (at the direction
of your favorite HMO). Try a little self-diagnosis (but use your head and get expert
medical advice if your symptoms persist) and check out this site: www.mwsearch.com.
With the FDA's fast track approvals, generics of your old familiar drugs, and the fact
that the historically-reliable PDR is an expensive investment, why not get the
latest-and-greatest info and insight about prescriptions drugs: www.rxlist.com.
Send those letters with 9-digit zip codes if you want to get them there faster; here's
your look-up link: www.usps.gov/ncsc/.
Want to know your favorite celebrity's birthday? Even though mine probably isn't listed
(it's April 23rd, by the way) you can find many others at: www.famousbirthdays.com/.
The good old days of knowing that 212 was in New York, 213 was in Southern California and
214 in North Texas are gone. Want to figure out where a particular area code is located?
Save yourself the 50 cents your local directory assistance will try to charge you; look no
further than right here: http://decoder.AmeriCom.com/.
Looking for a zip code? Get the 9-digit code and get your snail-mail there fast: www.westminster.ca/cdnlook.htm.
As Curly of the Three Stooges once said: "The truth is stranger than fiction!"
He was right, you know. If you need further proof, check out the Darwin Awards: www.officialdarwinawards.com/index.html.
One of my all-time favorite TV shows is "Biography" on the Arts &
Entertainment channel every weekday night. Check out their website at: www.biography.com.
Forget your HP-12C calculator. You need to do some financial calculations, then take a
look at these sites: www.financenter.com or www.bankrate.com.
Ticked off at what's going on in Washington? Want to nominate Benjamin Dover for an
ambassadorship? Then write to a couple of guys with clout: president@whitehouse.gov or vice.president@whitehouse.gov.
And if you want a different view of the White House, you can't miss this site: www.whitehouse.net.
Sure I pick on em...but they deserve it! But if you want to really know what your
attorney--or perhaps potential attorney--are made of, then check out the famed
Martindale-Hubbell directory right here on the web: www.martindale.com
or www.wld.com.
Speaking of attorneys and the law, here's a legal-oriented site that's loaded with useful
links: www.lawresearch.com.
I use this site for research for the various radio and TV shows that I do. Check it out to
find information on just about anything: www.elibrary.com.
I'm glad I never say anything stupid. Okay, well maybe once in a blue moon. You want to
read some of the comments of others that wished they hadn't said that? Amazing: www.comedybreak.com/quotes/index.htm.
When I'm having to drive in unfamiliar territory (even on my home turf) I go to one place
for easy to follow maps and directions: www.mapquest.com.
Nobody loves the uneven absurdity of David Letterman's Top Ten Lists more than I do. Check
em out all the way back to 1993:
http://marketing.cbs.com/network/tvshows/mini/lateshow/topten/.
I use this as my "home page" when I sign on to the Internet; if you're not using
www.bendover.com as your home page, then consider USA Today's site: www.usatoday.com.
Want to protect your privacy, or at least be more informed on how to try? Then check out www.thecodex.com.
